Kalburgi, 77, was a former university vice chancellor and noted scholar
of literature in the Kannada language. Over the years, he had angered
right-wing Hindu groups and some within his own caste community, a
Hindu sect called Lingayat, with controversial views on idol worship
and religious rituals.

He was given a security detail by the state after comments against idol
worship sparked right-wing anger in 2014 and his home was pelted with
stones and bottles. But police said that guard was removed at his
request a little over two weeks ago.

It is not to say that the actions of the few represent the whole.

It does stand in stark contrast to those wing nuts of india who claim self
purity falsely while indeed blaming the actions of the few for entire
groups of others.

Case in point, the claim above that in the end it will be found it was
muslims who murdered him.

We have the examples of 2002 and 2008 to know otherwise, a bloody witness
many want to sweep away and who fail in doing so.
