How are you doing? See you are still posting away, you must be good. Hey can you tell me what's happening in google groups. A couple of weeks ago I could search for and access all posts made by omjaroo. Now when I search I only get the last few posts. Something has changed. It says there are 25,245 post for the group and I know they have all of the posts from alt.yoga's inception but I don't seem to be able to search them??

Hi Jared,

Yes, I’m doing fine, and hoping to drag my yoga mat, foam blocks, and
strap out from under my bed and start some asana and pranayams
practice soon, though currently I am out of town five days a week
acting as evening/night/Sundays backup to my brother’s main
daytime home support worker. I am still staying up late quite often,
and still attempting to instigate a global new age by magickal
workings and prayer, and if I haven’t achieved full success by
this (Sept. 5/6) 31st anniversary of my sun stare, naked thorn
hill climb, and blue rose vision I hope to by Harvest Moon. But
it could be that I will have to wait two more years, when my low/working
years will have reached nearly 29 years (the common seven years
of many past figures plus two eleven year sunspot cycles),
and the anniversary then will be three sunspot cycles.

Regarding google groups, you have to be signed in to a google
account now to do searches, so they can track your searches.
I do this by having my gmail open in a another tab. But lately
I have noticed some difficulty in finding posts that should
have come up in a simple search. I don’t know yet about the
long term picture. I have to use google groups tomorrow
night since I will be over at my sister’s for the night and
I will test it out then, if not before. If the search capability
is indeed screwed up that would render google groups’
extensive archive pretty useless. And while Hogwasher,
saves my sent posts in a Sent folder, other newsreaders
I have used over the years, plus google groups itself, have
not, so I have been planning to rely on google groups to
eventually go through some of my old posts.

has been banned from google groups.

When I a general search for David Dalton I get
63,200 conversations, though some of them are
about the Rolling Stone writer David Dalton, some
of them are Andrew Chung greeting David Dalton,
but many of them are threads originated by me.

So anyway, I am not entirely satisfied with the way
searches are working, especially sort by date,
which might not show earlier posts.

OK, I just tried doing a search for omjaroo on
alt.yoga alone and got just 8 threads in sort
by date, with nothing to click on to show more
posts, but when I switched to sort by relevance
it listed 673 threads.

However when I search for omjaroo on the main
groups.google.com , searching all groups and
messages, at first I get three threads but then
when I click on See more conversations it shows
2317 threads which (at least the first page) all
seem to be on alt.yoga . And there it is 2317
both by relevance and by date.

So yes, searching within alt.yoga doesn’t appear
to be working properly, especially sort by date.

David, my apology, I just saw this amazing bunch of work you did to try and answer my question. I am, at this moment, trying to replicate the searches you did. I curated some of the posts I did over the years and created a PDF, but the design of it is based on people being able to search google groups in order to follow an original tread and/or the original posts to the group. Something has fundamentally changed in the was google is dealing with these old Usenet threads. And it happened from one day to the next. I don't know if it is possible to contact these folks for information/insight to what is happening or why but one comment you made seemed spot on: whatever is happening is making google archive of Usenet effectively useless for historical research.
